ABSTRACT

This is a book about writing and yet we’ve only just – in Chapter 5 – got round to the actual business of beginning to put words together. That may seem rather late in the day but, as we hope you agree by now, writing is much more than tapping on keys or tracing letters with a pen. In a way, you’ve been doing it from the time you started unpicking the title of the assignment. Thinking about your material, organizing it, preparing it – that’s all part of the writing process. Writing is thinking, putting words to thoughts clarifies them, gives them accessible shape.
