ABSTRACT
Most Germanic languages have INTENSIFIERS that have developed from the reconstructed Proto-Germanic form *selba-. In using the term ‘intensifier’ I refer to DPadjuncts like English herself in Icelandic sjálfur in and Gothic silba in The generic label SELF will be used for any element etymologically related to those items. The small caps in SELF are intended to indicate that this term refers to (elements from) a family of expressions, rather than any lexical item in particular.
