ABSTRACT
After more than fifty years in power, the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) is not exactly the same party it was in 1949, when it gained power in China, or for that matter in 1921, when it was established. It has had to adapt to changes in the domestic and international environments. This chapter will discuss the most critical challenges that face the CCP in the early twenty-first century that might potentially lead to its further transformation.
