Every Child Matters?

The Children Act and the ensuing publication of Every Child Matters (ECM) promises to radically change the nature of inspection and self-evaluation. It extends the boundaries of the school and the task of leadership, placing an extended responsibility on schools for effective liaison and collaboration with other agencies. This chapter examines the five ‘outcomes’ of ECM and their implications for the work of schools and teachers.
