ABSTRACT

I was at a school where you did quite commonly get some of the lower levels on the scale. It came to a point when I realised that you can’t separate how you manage your classes from the way the school operates as a whole . . . the institution, the culture . . . you don’t operate in a vacuum . . . it’s the art of the possible and you’ve got to adjust intelligently to the situation. It was helpful to come to that realisation.
