ABSTRACT

Many of the preceding chapters highlighted the importance of communication skills in small-group or one-to-one situations with staff, parents and pupils. But ‘putting on a show’ in front of large groups is also a vital skill for a senior manager. We saw in Chapter 7 that giving an entertaining assembly will impress the pupils and raise your standing with them in crowd-control situations in corridors. Teachers are also impressed by a good assembly, but they need to see your eloquence in a much wider variety of situations such as running a staff meeting or chairing a large curriculum committee.
