ABSTRACT

Perhaps the most novel strategy to have developed, however, is the ‘pupil conference’ – a day event at which pupils from primary and secondary schools come together with teachers. They discuss their experiences of learning and strategies which they have found useful when applied in their schools. The focus is very clearly on what teachers and schools can do to help children learn, and the teachers who act as facilitators of discussions know that they are there to hear what children have to say – not to teach, train or advise them.
