ABSTRACT

The presentation (pages 15-18) can be used to introduce teachers to the key ideas underpinning assessment for learning as a way of helping pupils to learn how to learn. Changing accustomed practice is often challenging for teachers, so knowledge of the positive effects that AfL has been shown to have on learning and achievement can give teachers the confidence to take what they perceive to be risks. The second section of the presentation provides sets of very practical ideas for the development of classroom practice. The idea here is that teachers should be encouraged to select some to try out in their classrooms then feed back and discuss what they have learned with colleagues.
