ABSTRACT

Ion exchange chromatography is a versatile technique which can be used for the purification of biological components with charged functional groups, including: proteins, peptides, amino acids, nucleotides, nucleic acids and charged metabolites. The resins used in IEX are relatively inexpensive, and they can be easily washed and sanitized ready for a repeat run using simple procedures. Ion exchange resins have a high capacity for the biological material applied; during elution they show good recovery of biological activity (nondenaturing) and excellent resolution of complex protein mixtures.
