ABSTRACT

In the 1994 Consensus Conference held in Zurich, Maughan and Leiper (1994) reviewed “Fluid loss in soccer”, providing information available from soccer players during both training and match-play. They then discussed issues relating to “Fluid and carbohydrate

replacement”. This discussion was largely from a non-soccer-specific point of view but did cover issues relating to “Fluid replacement for competition”, “Fluid replacement in recovery from training and competition”, and “Fluid loss and intake in training”. The final focus of the review was to consider issues related to “Training and competition in the heat” and to provide “Practical recommendations”.
