ABSTRACT

Globalization has been transforming national economies and individual careers in recent decades, and not least the late careers of older workers. Restructuring and rationalization pressures have triggered a visible increase in early labor force withdrawal in most western industrialized countries in recent decades, though with nation-specific variations in the magnitude and pace of this trend. This variation can be traced back to a country's institutional regime, as reflected in labor markets and welfare systems (Buchholz et al. and Hofacker and Pollnerová, both this volume). Denmark is undoubtedly a challenging case in this context for analyzing older workers' labor market behavior under globalization.
