ABSTRACT

This chapter sets out to review the strategies that are necessary for planning for and assessing children with SEN in PE. In any PE lesson the importance of setting suitable learning challenges through clear expectations, knowledge of individual children, flexibility, and a commitment to modification and adaptive practices is essential. As a result, if we plan our teaching and objectives around these central principles we should employ the same strategies in relation to assessing children with SEN knowledge and understanding. The chapter will help you to review your understanding of what, why and how we assess children in PE, whilst assisting you to consider diverse strategies to ensure individuals have the best chance to demonstrate competence in PE.
