ABSTRACT
In this chapter various strands of the previous discussion are drawn together in an analysis of Albanian causative construction. Especially in the Arbëresh dialects the challenge is to account for the peculiar mix of a biclausal syntax, of the type investigated in Chapter 9 for ‘subjunctive’ and ‘control’ evironments, and of case and agreement realignment phenomena of the type familiar especially from Romance languages (Kayne 1975). Most extant treatments (Brandi and Savoia 1990; Guasti 1993; Turano 1994), in trying to systematize the evidence within the conceptual grille provided by the incorporation framework of Baker (1988), note explicitly the difficulties encountered by it.
