ABSTRACT
The joint emergence of Judaic religion and Minoan culture is nothing but a conjecture. It is extremely difficult to date both events, and the controversies surrounding such dating are numerous. The most likely candidate for the occurrence of the ‘Abraham experience’ (Voegelin 1956: 195) is the time of Hammurabi (1792-50 BC), while traces of a new type of culture in Crete appear around 1900 BC. If the similarity of the two events can be established, it might help to consolidate the dating of each.
