ABSTRACT

For some, writing reflectively in a journal is no problem. They take to it like the proverbial duck takes to her water. Some, however, struggle (Dart et al., 1998). They want more structure or writing in this way feels unfamiliar; it may feel ‘wrong’ because their training since school has been to write more formally, not, for example, using the first person. The demise of letter writing may have something to do with the difficulty because a letter to a friend can be similar to a journal entry in style and experience of writing. We do, on the other hand, use email.
