ABSTRACT
Memory is vital to the ability of animals to survive. It helps them respond to familiar situations appropriately. Human beings go further, remembering unique sequences of events and being aware of their capacity to do so. Our narrative ability makes us what we are. The ability to grapple with narrative structures is an essential feature of our minds and, therefore, of the cognitive development of the pre-school child.
