ABSTRACT

On the day of your talk, check that any equipment you need is available, that you know how to use it, and that it is in working order. Check that the light used to illuminate your notes is no brighter than is necessary, and that it will not cause discomfort to anyone in the audience. You should not need to use a microphone unless the acoustics are poor or the room very large, but if you are to use a fixed microphone, ask someone to check your position to ensure that you know either where to stand or how far you can move away from the microphone and still be heard. Then, during your talk, speak only when standing where you know your words will be heard by your audience. Usually you will be next to your notes.
