Fostering independent learning: assessing self- and time-management skills

The development of independent learning skills has been a fundamental feature of higher education in the UK for many years. However, many students are now arriving in HE without the requisite practical study skills to be successful and often find themselves in trouble, not as a result of lack of aptitude in their academic subject but rather through their lack of abilities in project, time and self-management.
