ABSTRACT

The knowledge expounded in the previous chapters would not be complete without a study of Indian traditional iconography. Iconography is generally studied separately from the knowledge of the citrasutras, but in order to gain a holistic view of the texts it is necessary to have a glimpse at the description of gods. The images of gods described in the texts are for worship and for this reason great emphasis is placed on perfection and beauty – concepts already mentioned in the previous chapters.
