ABSTRACT

This final chapter will attempt an overview of the subject in four sections. Earlier chapters will be summarized, to draw together information on the historical development of Buddhism in Britain and on the seven largest traditions. Each dimension will be considered in turn, looking at different aspects of teaching and practice to build up a thematic picture of adaptations from Asian Buddhism. The overall extent and diversity of such adaptations will then be assessed. Finally, some comments will be offered about Buddhism in Britain as a whole and whether any distinctive forms of ‘British Buddhism’ are emerging.
