ABSTRACT

In this chapter we will look at ethical issues, that is, the dilemmas that arise when designing psychological research and the moral principles we use to assess whether our psychological research is good or bad, right or wrong. First we will look at some general ethical principles and the issues that arise from them. We will then look at how breaking ethical guidelines can sometimes be justified. Finally we will look at whether we can resolve any of these issues. You will note that there are very few clear-cut judgements to be made and all these issues have many shades of grey.
