ABSTRACT
When we go back as far as possible in the phylogeny of the vertebrates, we arrive at the primitive Cyclostomata, eel-like creatures with eyes which, unfortunately from our point of view, demonstrate few fundamental differences from the eyes of less primitive vertebrates.The structure of the eyeball is like that of the human eye, and it is also moved by six muscles.
