ABSTRACT
This chapter reviews the problem of economic heterogeneity created by the period of industrial growth after the Second World War in Latin America. It outlines the way Marxism and informal sector theory analysed this phenomenon, and some of the difficulties with these approaches. It then discusses how these theories were incorporated into the debates about class and gender.
