ABSTRACT

There have been few worthwhile surveys of the mental health caseloads of social services departments in England and Wales. As was mentioned in the introduction, this study is particularly relevant for two reasons. First, in the UK, social services departments (SSDs) are designated as the lead agencies in respect of the provision of social care in the community for resettled individuals with serious and disabling mental disorders. Second, service impact has been identified as being the keystone of evaluation.
