ABSTRACT
Both in the evolution of our species and in individual biological development IMAGE comes before WORD. Later, spoken words were developed for communication across distances. And finally, written words were added, allowing communication across time as well as across space. The non-verbal technique of sandplay relies primarily on images rather than words. It takes the client back in both evolutionary and biological time, back to the time when visual imaging predominated over verbal conceptualization.
