ABSTRACT

Bebe Miller, one of the best, most unpretentious exponents of downtown New York dance, works in the postmodern idiom with confidence. Her work, steeped in urban sensibility, frequently employs everyday movement, but it is always grounded in Miller’s impressive understanding of her craft. Her choreography, which could be called seminarrative, is never merely abstract for its own sake. She devises movement that is deeply rooted in recognizably human dynamics. For her there is a direct, visceral link between mind and motion. The result is the creation of warm, urgent, kinetic drama.
