ABSTRACT

If one were to pinpoint the characteristics of Murphy’s dance, then ‘eclectic’ and ‘theatrical’ are perhaps the two most definitive terms: for whether in the choice of artistic medium, or in the choice of theme, movement style, and music, Murphy ranges over a wide field, drawing on whatever he considers necessary to realize his creative vision. That vision is firmly anchored in the belief that dance should be theatre that excites and stimulates its audience, not only in terms of its dance content, but also in terms of its overall production.
