ABSTRACT
One thing that history teaches us is that the future rarely turns out the way that we expect. It is perhaps unwise, therefore, to speculate about the future of representation in Britain in the twenty-first century. However, sufficient analytical threads have been identified in preceding chapters to alert us to the major issues worthy of consideration. Even if we are not in a position to know the exact answers, we have a good idea, at least, of what the questions are.
