ABSTRACT

One of the major differences between seventeenth-century English society and that of many western countries today is the centrality of religious belief. Everyone, with only a few minor exceptions, believed in God. Most people's lives were dominated by their search for salvation and by their desire to lead a Christian life. Protestant Christians turned to the Scriptures and their ministers for guidance; an indispensable reference work for the reader of these documents is the King James version of the Bible.
