ABSTRACT
In recent years there have been several valuable contributions to the study of doctrinal developments in the transition from ‘mercantilist’ to ‘classical’ economics.1 The present article is designed to suggest the need for a substantial revision of the accepted view of the attitude to labour in the literature of British economics during this transitional era.
