ABSTRACT

This chapter examines some of the ethical issues and problems that arise when scientists publish results from their laboratory work. Since one meaning of “publish” is to “to make publicly known,” this chapter will discuss the various ways that scientists make their results publicly known. These include publication in scientific journals and academic presses, as well as internet publication and publication in popular presses and the media. This chapter will follow a pattern laid out in the previous one: it will apply some of the ethical standards defended in Chapter 4 to practical problems in science.
