ABSTRACT
There was evidence from the data gathered in various strands of the research that parental complaints about a particular teacher might act as the trigger for a head teacher to raise issues of competence with the teacher concerned. Parents were often a source of such information, according to both head teachers and teachers. It was important, therefore, to talk to parents about their views of teachers and teaching, and to explore the matters that some might raise.
