ABSTRACT

The idea of evolution in modern economics is generally regarded as a derivative of the biological analogy. To some extent this is too specific. Although the entry ‘evolution’ in The New Palgrave is connected to ‘natural selection’, this is only to indicate the adaptive traits of the idea of evolution. In this respect, ‘evolution’ may set a framework for conceptualization of ‘adaptations’ and need not be confined to the specific objective of biology.
