ABSTRACT
This chapter explores the relationship between music and text as found in a vocal score. Action, character, situation and emotion are also component parts of this relationship and as such will inevitably feature in this chapter. However, they are dealt with more fully in the next chapter. The exercises here are designed to offer approaches to unlocking the music and text so that interpretative choices present themselves more easily, giving you greater flexibility and control during the rehearsal process.
