ABSTRACT

One aim of this little book has been to encourage an appreciation of the wide base of social theory available to those who study and to those who manage work organizations. It has also sought to promote an understanding of the disputes and debates which characterize relations between these theoretical viewpoints, and has attempted to show how theoretical knowledge must be deployed in order to come to any real understanding of the processes or events we encounter. In this way the book has attempted to demonstrate that the explicit analysis of theoretical perspectives and positions will bring practical insight for research and action.
