ABSTRACT

Economics is meant to be a learned and dignified subject, neither lighthearted, nor given to philosophical speculation, let alone playfulness or humour. Economists are hard-headed—and some may be hard-hearted, too! The subject, after all, is the nature and consequences of making money, a serious business with little room for sentiment. Hard, cold calculations, backed by facts, form the basis of discourse. Writing should be precise, informative and unencumbered by metaphors, or alliterative turns of phrase. Economics is the science of cold cash.
