ABSTRACT

We now turn to the conditions under which religious experiences take place, that is, the environmental settings in which they occur, such as prayer or drugs, and the kinds of people who have them and what is happening inside their brain. Next we consider what effects they have, whether they are good for us, and finally we look at possible psychological explanations for them, at any rate for when these doors of perception are opened, though we may not be able to explain what is seen. Then we shall consider what has been found out from a theological point of view.
