The restructuring of MNCs across national borders influences resource allocation and welfare mainly through international transfers of the knowledge that is unique to their organizations. This knowledge is closely associated with technology, which determines how effectively capital, labour, natural resources and other factors of production are used. In addition, technological progress determines future opportunities through efficiency improvements in existing processes as well as the opening up of new areas of economic activity.
