ABSTRACT

It is fashionable to talk about re-engineering the traditional campus in order to respond to the changing demands of the Information Age.

As we enter the 21st century, changes in populations as well as in technology will lead to changes in the nature and structure of higher education. Increasingly, student populations throughout the world are older, employed, and more widely dispersed. As a result, the needs of students have changed. No longer are they adolescents making the transition to adulthood, instead, they are adults who need practical skills that can be used in their work. Institutions of higher education must adapt in order to meet the needs of these students or be replaced by commercial interests that are willing to do so. Fortunately, new technologies allow for changing the way in which education is delivered so that it will meet the changing needs of students both domestically and internationally.
