ABSTRACT

Although commonly described as ‘extra-curricular’ activities, the music making that goes on outside class lessons must be viewed as an integral part of the music curriculum of the school as a whole.

What has been discussed so far is the provision of tuition by specialist peripatetic teachers for a minority of children. There will of course be many other children who want to participate in music making outside normal lesson time and where there are staff or volunteers able and willing to take this on the possibilities are great.
