ABSTRACT

Schools adopt a variety of methods to draw up plans to show what is intended that children should learn and how and what teachers will teach. The National Curriculum Orders (for England and Wales) provide a framework for assessment in presenting programmes of study and statements of attainment for the end of each Key Stage expectations. For reasons of ‘simplicity’, levels within each Key Stage are not given. This we should be grateful for as it offers us greater freedom to devise our own approaches and content. On the other hand, it does mean more work for the teacher, and in particular the coordinator, in drawing up schemes and units of work.
