ABSTRACT
As South Africa approaches the end of its transitional phase and faces the elections of 1999 together with a new millenium, certain issues dominate the headlines: the economy, crime and corruption. These areas are viewed as presenting the greatest challenges to the country’s young democracy. This section will examine and assess the potential of each issue to undermine reform and progress.
