ABSTRACT
After studying modern dance in Puerto Rico Velez-Aguayo dabbled briefly in bodybuilding and dancing for Las Vegas-style spectacles before settling in the US to pursue a career in modern dance and performance. Her performance “Oh Goya! Goya!” explores the experience of isolation she experienced as a Puerto Rican living in Arizona, where not even the commercial goods targeting the Puerto Rican market on the East Coast of the US were available.
