Fair Use/Museum Use: How Close is the Overlap?

Notwithstanding occasional threats from the estates of a number of European artists, several artists’ rights organizations headquartered in Paris or New York City, and a scattering of others, remarkably few actions for copyright infringement have ever been brought against museums in the United States that collect and/or display works of contemporary visual art and that prepare and distribute reproductions of that art in a wide variety of formats.
