ABSTRACT

Throughout the discussion of its “external history”, the camp was conceived of as a single entity, one of many such sites on the map of occupied Poland. Repeatedly we followed the route of the dozens of transports until they stopped at the camp gate. The time has now come to go through that gate and observe from close at hand the alien and hostile world known as the Skarżysko-Kamienna camp. What shall we discover —an internal life similar to that which prevailed at other camps, or a different sort of reality?
