ABSTRACT
The discussion now turns to a thematic examination of party activity in the middle Volga, which will be the subject of this and the following two chapters. Before analysing the role, motives and attitudes of members in Chapter 5, and regional party election campaigns in Chapter 6, it is necessary to examine Russian political parties as federal, regional and local organizations.
