ABSTRACT

The institution manager controls and directs activities in the institution and on the institution grounds, accounts for what occurs, and has the final responsibility for persons and for collections, buildings and property given to the institution. The institution manager admits many public visitors and cares for them according to local standards, including standards of protection. The institution manager makes the protection of the institution the business of everyone who enters. Physical security is one of the basic building protection services at cultural institutions. In this chapter appear the theory and practice of non-electronic perimeter protection. Chapter 7 provides the basics of electronic barrier protection.
