ABSTRACT

Managers of museums and other cultural institutions often protect cultural property outside the institution itself. Cultural managers want to maintain a regular pattern of collection care and protection where collections go. Managers often have collection objects at some site other than one traditional building. Often managers have responsibilities for exterior monuments or exhibits, extensive grounds, temporary offices, and research or archaeological sites. Cultural institution managers often have many buildings, sometimes at various locations. Cultural protection managers often put institution objects in the hands of a private collector, a gallery, a shipper, or an exporter. The site might be a rented office space or a cultural institution in a university. The manager might arrange loans to another cultural institution and send the objects by road, railroad, sea, or air.
