ABSTRACT
There is no common myth of Chinese migration to Europe. No ‘Angel Island’ legend serves as a shared experience of entrance to Europe. 1 Spurious anecdotes, scant traces in European archives, and some stereotyped reports in newspapers are the main sources on overseas Chinese in Europe before the Second World War: not reliable, and not very interesting.
