ABSTRACT

Whenever it is possible to do so, counsellors need to review whatever information they have about clients and their reasons for seeking counselling before the first counselling session takes place. For example, if time has elapsed between the client’s decision to seek counselling and the scheduled first session, it is quite likely that the client will have experienced some positive change in the problem. Although these changes may seem quite small and insignificant to the client, they are worth noting and exploring in greater detail.
